TIPS FOR EMOTIONALLY
PARENTING YOUR CHILD WITH AUTISM AND ASPBERGERS!
1.
Make sure you are taking care of your own
emotional well-being first!
2.
Be a detective!
Take time to observe your child’s emotional response is to various
situations, including his/her reactions to you!
3.
Follow your child’s lead. Join your child in his/her preferred play
activities, even if it feels strange to you!
4.
Praise your child’s appropriate behavior!
5.
Know your child’s strengths and what makes
him/her special. Provide opportunities
for them to shine!
6.
Help your child label and understand his/her
emotions.
7.
Know when to nurture your child and when he/she
needs you to let him/her grow.
8.
Interact and play with your child at his/her
physical and developmental level.
9.
Give your child time to process information by
waiting or changing your approach when giving instructions. Don’t repeat instructions over and over
again!
10.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Know your limits and when you need to seek
out professional help.!
