How To Prepare Your Child For Busy Holiday Celebrations
1. Take practice trips. Take several short trips as trial runs before making a longer trip. Limit these trips to 15-20 minutes.
2. Have a plan. Before the holiday celebration, make a plan that will include preparing your child and strategies during the party. Share this with your child.
3. Provide activities. Offer activities for your child to engage in during the car ride and intermittently during the holiday celebration. This will provide him/her with a “break” from the noise and high activity level of the party.
4. Praise your child for good behaviors. Be sure to say what you like specifically about a behavior, and praise your child. You may choose to offer a reward or give points or tokens to later redeem for a privilege.
