NBC tried their best to air all of the main events from the 2014 Winter Olympics, but they missed a few of the highlights from the Capernaum Olympics! Here are a few events the Capernaum kids and families tried out to celebrate the Olympics!
- No Olympic games would be complete without a torch! We simply used a paper towel roll and tissue paper.
- No event does a better job of bringing all nations from around the globe together than the Olympics, so this was a great time to talk about different countries and flags.
- Of course we also made the Olympic flag, using cups as stamps to make the rings.
- A few kiddos even created their own flags to represent themselves!
- We practiced handwriting to write down a few of the Capernaum Olympic events...
- and to make score cards! The kids loved playing the role of a judge and giving scores to their parents and therapists!
- We practiced our Olympic vocabulary with this fun spinner!
- We froze ice in a pan and put on figure skating shows with our toys!
- We covered our feet with wax paper and "ice skated" on the carpet!
- We practiced our ball toss aim!
- We tried out our "curling" skills with a broom and ball in the hallway!
- We created a miniature "luge" course by blowing cotton balls down a PVC pipe!
- And built a "snowy" marshmallow structure with toothpicks!
- We even tried out a team bobsledding race!
- Of course, we also had a medal ceremony for the many, many awesome athletes!!!
- When the games came to a close, we enjoyed a healthy snack of Olympic rings made out of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, bananas slices, and an apple ring and had a special gold medal treat made out of fruit roll-ups and golden Oreos.
Although the games in Sochi may have come to a close, we think these activities would be fun to try at home with your little one anytime!
