Backpack Safety

We are fully engaged in the school year, and backpacks are filling up with homework and projects. As you send your children off to school, here are some resources to help you keep their backs, shoulders, and necks safe!

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) offers guidelines for purchasing a well-fitting, safe backpack for children and adults of any age. While it might seem like that pack with the cartoon character of the moment is the only one that will do, if it's not the right size or fit, it could cause pain and discomfort.

If you, like most, have already bought or received your backpack for the school year, check out this helpful information sheet, also from the AOTA. On it, you'll find tips for packing and wearing your backpack safely and with more comfort.

If you have questions about how to purchase or safely pack and wear a backpack, please reach out - our OTs are happy to help!
