Tips for Handwriting Success!
1. Seating: Make sure your child’s desk and chair fit properly. His/her elbows, hips and knees should be at a 90 degree angle for an optimal position for handwriting.
2. Grip: Try out various pencil grips to make pencil use easier if your child is pushing too hard, too light, has an awkward grasp, or fatigues quickly during handwriting.
3. Slanted surface: Your child may benefit from a slanted surface when printing. Try a slant board or a large 3-ring binder on his/her desk.
4. Weight: Weight your child’s pencil with a heavy eraser may increase stability and control.
5. Modifications: Simple modifications to your child’s paper can assist them when attempting to print between the lines, such as raised line paper or highlighting portions of their lined paper.
